CART provides assistive technology (AT) services to individuals with physical disabilities. CART is part of Rancho Los Amigos, a Los Angeles County rehabilitation hospital. CART services include evaluations, recommendations, equipment set up, modification, and training. Primary AT areas include wheelchair seating and mobility, augmentative communication, electronic activities for daily living, computer access and technology integration. Services are typically provided at CART. However, evaluations can be conducted in the individual's school, home or work environment, when needed. Staffing includes an occupational therapist, physical therapist, rehabilitation engineer, speech pathologist, technology specialist and medical consultant.

The Center for the Partially Sighted offers a comprehensive low vision rehabilitation program to improve independent functioning. Some of the software we train on include: JAWS, Window-Eyes, ZoomText, Duxbury, Openbook and Kurzweil. We also train on the BrailleNote and PACMate devices. We instruct people interested in learning Braille.

The Lighthouse Store has an inventory of 740 low vision and braille supplies for personal and work use including, Perkins Braillers, braille paper, labelers, and labeling tape; 2 and 4 track cassette players; bold line paper; CCTVs; magnifiers and telescopic aids. The LightHouse computer training center trains persons in beginning Keyboard, MS Word, Excel, Windows, the Internet, and other advanced applications. Training is available on either an individual or group class basis.

The Sacramento Society for the Blind has a wide variety of products and services for people who are blind or who have low vision. The Society operates the largest and most comprehensive low vision clinic in Northern California. The clinic provides both evaluation services, and sale of a wide variety of related equipment an devices, such as CCTVs, magnifiers (both hand-held and eyeglass mounted), and mouse-cams. Training on all low-vision devices is available. The Society sells over 500 different items, including computer-based reading machines, four-track tape recorders, braille writing equipment, braille or talking clocks and watches, canes, large print materials, and a wide variety of items for both work and home applications. Personalized instruction is available on use of low-vision equipment, use of travel canes, and computers. Computer instruction focuses on use of Windows 95/98 with synthetic speech (either JAWS or Window-Eyes), and application software such as Microsoft Word.
