Cal-PCA General Information

 
How to Enroll in a Course

1. Complete the Online Registration form.
Be sure to include your social security number when registering, you can use all zeros except for the last four of your own number.   It is used ONLY to verify identity. If your social security number is not included, there may be a delay in processing your registration

2. Phone the CSUS College of Continuing Education at (916) 278-4433 (or Toll Free 1-800-858-7743).

3. In Person at the College of Continuing Education located in Napa Hall. 3000 State University Drive East, Sacramento, CA 958194.

4. For Mail-In and Fax-In, fill out the appropriate forms located on the CSUS registration website. http://www.cce.csus.edu/register/register.htm and follow the faxing or mailing directions on the form.

5. As a prerequisite  to receiving Continuing Education Units from the California State University Sacramento and a Certificate of Completion from the California Procurement and Contracting Academy for the 8-day Basic Certificate Program, all students are required to complete the Attorney General's On-Line Ethics course located at http://ag.ca.gov/ethics/index.htm and bring their certificate of completion to the first day of the second module.
 
Classroom Policies
 
Classes will start promptly at 8:15, so please make sure you arrive in plenty of time and take into consideration traffic and parking.
 
Cancellation Policy

If you do not cancel your scheduled class within 3 days of the start date, you will be charged a $100 no show fee.  Please contact Diana Ramos at (916) 375-4541.
 
Substitution Policy

Substitutions will no longer be allowed.  If you are unable to attend your designated Track or Workshop, and wish to reschedule, you will need to contact CSUS at (916) 278-4806.
 
No Shows
 
If you fail to show up for the first day of your designated track without prior notification, you will be charged a $100 no show fee. 
 
 
Class Hours

All classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
 
Make-Up Policy

You are only allowed to miss one hour per session; if you miss more than one hour, you will need to make up the entire day.  You can make up ½ days on days 1 & 2, but the entire day for days 3 through 8, and all make ups will be held during our make-up track, Track 50.  There will be no exceptions!  You will no longer be allowed to make up a day(s) during another track, only during our make-up track.  If you can't attend the make-up track, then you will need to wait until the make-up track of the following semester.

 

Email Diana.Ramos@dgs.ca.gov to make arrangements.  Continuing education credits and/or certificates will not be awarded to those students who do no complete all 8 day classes.

 

Grading

Classes are graded either Pass or Fail.  Continuing education units are awarded for completion of each program or workshop.  To complete the Basic Certificate Program students must complete all 8 classes and exercises, pass two quizzes and complete a group project/case study.
 
Students must pass two quizzes to complete the program. The first quiz is taken after Day 3, the second is taken at the end of Day 6. Quizzes are graded pass or fail. A passing score is 70% or better. If a student does not pass a quiz, he/she will be given the opportunity to take a secondary quiz.
 
The Day 8 will include a group project/case study.

Group Project.  The last class session will be devoted to a group project that requires you to handle a major acquisition.  Throughout the project, groups will be given specific questions to answer.  You must demonstrate knowledge of the content of the previous seven sessions.

 
Program Awards

1. Participants shall receive 6.4 Continuing Educations Units (CEUs) from California State University, Sacramento for successfully completing the program.
2. Participants shall receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Department of General Services for successfully completing the program.
3. Ethics Certification – this meets the California law that requires state officials to complete an ethics training course.
 
Advanced Professional Development Certificate

Participants who continue to pursue certified programs (i.e., intermediate and advanced programs and workshops) and successfully complete a total of 100 hours shall receive an Advanced Professional Development Certificate from the California State Universities. This is the highest non-matriculating award given by the CSU.
 
Facility Location
 
Cal-PCA classes are held at the Ziggurat building.  Cal-PCA has two classrooms, one on the 1s floor, (Z-1, Room 316), and one on the 2nd floor, (Z-2, Room 405) so when you enter the building, check in at the visitor desk, then look for the Cal-PCA sign in the lobby and look for your designated room.

Parking

The Ziggurat has a covered parking lot, $2.00 an hour or $12.00 per day; no in and out privileges. 

Please do not park at the parking lot at the Ziggurat entrance.  These spaces are limited-time spaces and your vehicle may be ticketed or towed.

Expectations of Participants

1. Participants will arrive promptly for class.
2. Participants are required to bring all session material from the program binder(s) to each of the class sessions.
3. Participants will complete all assigned readings prior to class.
4. Participants who do not attend the entire program must make up days missed (during a future course offering) in order to receive a certificate or continuing education units.
5. Participants will treat instructors and other participants as colleagues who have valuable knowledge and contribute to personal learning.
6. Participants will be open to new views and perspectives.
7. Participants will participate frankly in class discussions, willing to share personal experiences and be honest with others.
8. Participants will treat all personal and work-related discussions as confidential.
Expectations of Instructors
1. Instructors will arrive promptly for class.
2. Instructors will be prepared for class.
3. Instructors will be available outside of class via email or telephone for consultation.
4. Instructors will ensure that all materials have a government focus, although private sector examples will be used to illustrate principles.
5. Instructors will treat participants as colleagues who have valuable expert knowledge and work experiences to contribute to the course.
6. Instructors will be open to questions and challenges.
7. Instructors will treat all participants' writing and remarks confidentially.
8. Instructors will provide detailed and honest feedback.
